Exercise videos, after school specials, old school horror movies, 80’s porn. Sounds like the clearance rack when MovieTime Video was going out of business. Or possibly weird uncle Chester’s VHS collection. It’s also a combination of things you’re likely to see during an AV CLUB performance. Very good article! I am a newbie to this world of imagery and music being mixed and synced in the club world though I know it probably has been going on for a while. Very interesting to read the prep and mindset that goes into doing something like this. Where the ideas for the video clips that they use come from and everything. I am pretty old school when it comes to DJ'ing, give me my tech 1200s and some vinyl to spin and I am happy. But I like the idea of being able to mix and sync videos with the music. And I really like the set up they use to make it happen.
I wouldn't mind seeing some of this live in action to get the full experience. I may have to make a journey to one of these clubs to see it happen in person.
